outdoor Cushions BUILT TO LAST
We go to great lengths to ensure our custom cushions for our outdoor furniture will endure the natural elements, and design them to remain outdoors year-round. Our reticulated foam allows moisture to pass through the fabric and will never hold water like a sponge. This allows for airflow, keeping mildew out. Water easily flows through our furniture cushions, ensuring they will dry quicker. While other outdoor furniture companies design cushions with the aim of keeping water out, when water inevitably does get in, it remains trapped.
Our custom outdoor cushions hold their shape over time and will not pack down. We use four different firmnesses of reticulated foam combined with dacron batting wrap to achieve the most comfortable outdoor cushion available. Other outdoor furniture companies use a poly-filled cushion (meant for indoor use) that does not drain quickly, deteriorates over time, and invites mildew inside. Unmatched in performance, our cushions are designed to be permanent upholstery and for this reason, the zippers are sewn shut.
Our PTFE high performance sewing thread has a limited lifetime warranty and is unaffected by exposure to UV rays, harsh cleaning agents, pollution, salt water, rain, snow, cold and rot. These are the same threads used for America’s Cup Yachts. Tricky to sew, these high-cost threads require a very specialized sewing process. All of our welt cuts are on a variable bias with a hidden seam. Many outdoor furniture companies use a polyester thread that is only UV resistant, and do not cut their welt on the bias, creating visible seams.
We proudly sew all of our cushions at our workshop in Richmond, Virginia.
Our Italian Yachting Performance Fabrics are sourced from a small, third generation family owned mill in Northern Italy and are 100% solution-dyed acrylic, resisting fading and loss of strength from exposure to the elements. Known for its weaving traditions, the Northern Italian region is home to Europe’s purest low mineral waters which give our fabrics more softness without leaving any residuals. In the foothills of the Alps, our fabrics are made by artisans who share our passion for craftsmanship, sustainability, timeless design, and performance.
Furniture cushions can be priced in AquaLeather®, an outdoor water resistant leather-like material with a soft and supple hand. AquaLeather® has the unique ability to stay cooler to the touch than either leather and vinyl. It resists fading over extended periods of exposure to sunlight and is an ideal choice for tropical outdoor applications or any location with frequent passing showers. AquaLeather® is water resistant and requires vinyl open weave mesh on the underside to allow custom cushions to breathe. AquaLeather® is mildew resistant, UV resistant, and engineered to stand up to high wear and extended exposure to sunlight. AquaLeather® is Greenguard® Certified and earth friendly. AquaLeather® is 100% Polyurethane Surface with a 65% Polyester, 35% Rayon backing. Swatches are available.
