Our Abbot Chairs honor Scaisbrooke Langhorne Abbot (1908-1985), a celebrated artist from our hometown of Lynchburg. The Greek key perfectly reflects the classical sensibilities and refined vision of this true Renaissance man and hard-working artist. In ancient Greece, the Greek Key was symbolic of infinity and the eternal flow of things, reflected in the pattern's unbroken, continuous style. The chair oozes vintage style vogue, but with comfort so often compromised with antique outdoor furniture. The rush seat creates a less formal feeling, resulting in a chair with the casual, easy elegance of French provincial furniture. We’ve always wanted to create a chair that Bunny Mellon would have loved in her garden. Remembering her famous quote, “nothing should be noticed,” it feels as though our Abbot chairs quietly slipped into the garden early on and have been there all along. The Abbot Chair features a synthetic woven rush seat, and a 1.5” Box Construction Seat Cushion with Welting is also available.
