The Commonwealth of Virginia, site of the first permanent English settlement in the New World, occupies a storied, almost mythical place in the American soul. Rich layers of history have often left visible marks in the landscape - recreated Colonial era gardens in Williamsburg, Civil War battlefields, and earthworks mark the Commonwealth interior. Having grown up in the midst of this special place steeped in history and legend, we are deeply influenced and connected to our past.
We make all of our furniture entirely by hand at our workshop, located in Scott’s Addition, the historic neighborhood listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places in the heart of Richmond. A visit to our workshop is a return to an era when it was still possible to have rapport with highly skilled local craftspeople. A departure from mass production, each piece of McKinnon and Harris furniture is signed and dated by the artisan.
